What we do
Music Industry Piracy Investigations Pty Limited (MIPI) was established in 1995 to combat the increasing problem of music piracy in Australia. MIPI provides investigative and intellectual property rights enforcement related services to the Australian music industry. MIPI conducts investigative, preventative and educational activities in relation to music piracy in Australia.
MIPI acts on behalf of the major record companies and the music publishers.
What personal information we collect
MIPI may collect personal information about you if:
- You report suspected piracy to us;
- You contact us (other than to report suspected piracy); or
-
A report has been made about you or your organisation in relation to piracy.
Privacy of informants
All informant details are treated confidentially and MIPI does not release these details without your express prior consent.
What we do with personal information that we collect
MIPI respects the privacy of the individuals we deal with. In our handling of personally identifiable information about individuals, we comply with the requirements of the National Privacy Principles in the Federal Privacy Act 1988.
Information given to us in relation to suspected piracy may be forwarded to third parties such as the copyright owners, investigators or legal advisors. This may include sending information to copyright owners outside of Australia.
Information that we collect when you contact us to register for a MIPI seminar or training event will be used only to facilitate the administration of that event. The information will not be transferred to any other parties unless you indicate on your registration that you wish to receive further information from MIPI.
Information that we collect when you contact us other than to report suspected piracy may be transferred to our stakeholders to assist them in managing the activities of MIPI.
